Over by the
Ashton Canal we saw the people powered Go-cart race, between the St.
Georges girls team. (Kimberley, Alex and Tracey) and the boys Scream-Team
(Karl, Jordan and Raymond. After the first run there was a stewards enquiry which
was upheld. It was established that the Scream-Team bent the rules a little by
adding the power of one person half way round the track. The girls sportingly
agreed to a re-run rather than disqualifying the boys!
The re-run produced a legitimate win for Scream, although the St. Georges girls gave them a good race. Well done both teams! The services of the bike repairers was well appreciated and well attended. The DJ with a Karaoke set up was very popular, with youngsters even hitting the high notes! We had the pleasure of watching St. Georges dancers going through their routines and the basket weaving stall had lots of kids producing woven ornamental shapes for their mams.
On this occasion the weather was kind, so it gave a bit of a glow to the day. Following the field events we went into the Merci building Bridge5 Mill (The old Beswick Mill) to see a video. The screen filled with floral displays and there were personal comments from numerous community activists about the transformation of the Mill from dereliction to the thriving set-up with spacious accommodation.
All participants in the
Bloom competition received a prize which included compost bins and
vouchers to spend at a garden centre. There were three categories, Best floral,
Best vegetable and overall winner. Each receiving a special prize. We then tucked
into the buffet and beverages. The event was a big success and well organised,
well done to all!
Bloomin-eck!
