Groundworks
Good Citizen
Once
again Groundwork have started the Schools Intervention Project working with
children in schools in our area to encourage good citizenship. The project involves
children looking into the various effects vandalism has on a community. The
children follow planned urban trails around the area and answer questions. e.g.
How much do you think it would cost to repair broken windows, damaged play equipment
etc.
The children also interview local residents asking them questions about their own environment and how they are affected by childrens behaviour. Hearing other peoples viewpoint helps them to understand how their own behaviour may affect others. Groundwork are not alone in this project as well as working with the schools other agencies are involved, the Police, and Manchester Housing to name just two. The children will visit the different agencies working in Miles Platting to see the work they do. They will then be encouraged to put together the information, stories, quotes and drawings to go into a newsletter.
Finally
the children will stage a Question Time where an invited audience will question
the children. There is a lot of work going on in this area to try to solve problems,
we residents dont always see what good is being done so its nice
to know about projects like this one.
