St.
Peters Ancoats
The old derelict St Peters church in Ancoats is presently under-going
a complete re-structuring and both external and internal work is in process
through the Ancoats Buildings Preservation Trust.
The very distinctive Tower is a well known Land mark and it is almost complete, there is still the final topping to be put in place, A feature in the Tower will be the various levels of observation windows, and the panoramic experience on reaching the top.
The building will house
a ground floor foyer with shops, an auditorium with a stage two Bar areas
on both lower and higher levels accessible by a stairway or by a lift which
is to be included in the plans.
The top floor will be an exhibition and function room and on each of the floors
will be WC facilities.
In September an invitation
was sent out for the Public to visit the church to see how the scheme was progressing,
and an exhibit plus a Talk and Walk around the planned Ancoats Village
and the Murray Mills was arranged.
The Have Your Say magazine was included in the exhibit and our stall attendants
were giving out both current and earlier issues of the magazine which was proving
to be a very attractive point of interest, the magazine was a popular pick-up
and received lots of commendations from the Public many of them travelling from
afar but their roots remain in Ancoats.
A further treat in store
for the visitors was the provision of a coach to ferry them to Gorton to see
the work being done at the St Francis Monastery which is also being re-structured.
