Blue Shoes!
During wartime I was sent to live in a small country town, and at harvest-time I was pleased to be given work on a nearby farm. It was extremely hard work and I started to lose my enthusiasm for harvesting, until I was given 30/- payment for doing the job. There was a little shoe shop in the High street and I had been admiring a pair of blue shoes in the window, they had two inch heels and I had never had shoes with high heels, at that time no coupons were needed to buy shoes so I went in and bought them.

When I showed the shoes to my mam, both her and grandma were shocked, I thought it was fair to spend the money because I had worked hard for it, but I did give the money I had left to my mam. However, after showing off my new blue shoes with high heels for a few days, one of the heels came off and I was devastated, I learned a lesson and never again showed off.

Another Smoky Tale
When I was a young girl in the 1960s my mother used to smoke Park Drive, with having a big family she could only afford a few per week. One day my sister and I decided to use the packet as a pin cushion, not realising there was any in the packet!

When my mother came to get a cigarette she went mad! We watched in amazement as she tried to sellotape each and every cigarette and waited to see if she could actually smoke them!
