Beryl Pennington a receptionist at the Charles Vites Memorial Centre Naylor Street. Beryls father Ernie Cunningham was once a landlord of The Albion Public House in Miles Platting (Now demolished) Then The Fountain Inn on Bradford Road. Beryl’s Godson is Mike Atherton the England Cricketer! Mikes grandparents “The Fletchers” were the owners of The Pork Shop which was situated near the corner of Oldham Road and Collyhurst Street. Fletcher’s Pork Shop was renown throughout the area, there were always queues waiting to be served. Their provisions were the best in the area. You could buy anything from pigs wissel to boars head and all the savoury morsels in- between and their home-made brawn and potted meats were second to none.
