Pollen

Seven young guys from north Manchester have formed a band called Pollen. They have set out to prove to the Tony Wilsons of this world that there is still loads of raw talent around the north, sitting up all night arguing about music, ecstatic about music, making records and playing gigs, if he cares to get his hands dirty!

Lead vocalist Robert Leishman from Tewkesbury Road, Miles Platting says, “We played a gig at the Berkshire Pub in north Manchester recently. It was just meant to be for family and friends. Then my mum told a neighbour, Marie, who just happens to be training in community radio! So then the Radio Moston team who Marie works for, got together and helped us get some people at the gig, who could help us on a bit. By the end of an amazing night we had offers of a manager, a studio, money offered to pay for the studio and an altogether bigger fan base! Then someone from Key 103 popped in and offered us a chance to play a demo on his Friday show. Not bad eh, for a first gig!”

Pollen have been getting it together for about a year now. Their musical influences are, “Everything that sounds good.” though Robert himself was influenced by his Dad’s huge record collection of rythmn and blues. “Stevie Ray Vaughan, Van Morrison etc. It just goes on and on.”

The group write all their own music. Robert writes the lyrics and Paul structures the songs mostly, but everyone contributes to the end product.

Pollen’s second home gig was at The Miners Club, Moston and as far as the future goes they’ve got the North Manchester Music Festival and lots of gigs to look forward to. The future is bright, the future is Pollen. Watch this space!
