School Intervention Project
In recent months a lot of work has been done with schools in the area and agencies like the Police, Housing, Eastside and Groundwork.

The aim of the project is to look at the role which children have within their community and to encourage good citizenship.

During the first term, the children looked closely at vandalism and its costs and learnt about both the social and physical effects that this has. Then, along with a representative from one of the agencies, the children followed urban trails around the area, answering set questions.

The next stage for them was to speak to local residents and present questions about what they have to deal with. This is crucial to the children’s understanding of how apparently innocent behaviour may cause anguish to others. It’s also crucial they learn the effects of persistent anti-social behaviour including vandalism.

The children will also visit the different agencies at work in Miles Platting to see what they do and how they do it. We hope the children will put together stories, quotes and drawings to go in a newsletter.

The final stage of the project will be Question Time, where the children’s groups will present different situations to an audience who will question them.

So as you can see, the area’s problems are being tackled by teaching children about the effect thoughtless actions can have on the whole community.
