Keep
Safe On the Street!
1. When walking alone, stand up straight and walk confidently. Dont look
like an easy target.
2. Stick to well-lit busy streets and if youre lost, go into a shop or restaurant where there are lots of people and ask for directions.
3. If youre being
followed keep moving, get to a public place and ask for help. Then phone home
or the police.
4. If someone tries to mug you, be prepared to give up your bag or purse rather
than get hurt (keep keys, bus pass and some money in your pocket just in case).
Take a good look at the mugger and call the police.
5. If you are trapped or cornered, shouting Phone the police or Fire usually gets peoples attention, more than just yelling Help.
6. In buses or trains, always sit in a well-lit place close to other people. Be prepared to move seats, carriages or attract peoples attention if you feel threatened.
7. Never, ever accept lifts from strangers.
8. Only use mini-cabs ordered by phone, who know you by name. Try to share a mini-cab with a friend. Always sit in the back, wear your seat belt and keep a window open in case you need to shout for help.
9. If you are in a cab and are feeling uncomfortable at any stage, tell the driver youve changed your mind and are going to meet your brother or dad. Ask him to take you to some busy public place, get out and call home for help.
