Who
Does What To Help You?
Lone Parent Adviser for Ancoats and Miles Platting
residents.
My name is Janet Birkins and I know the thought of starting work can be
daunting, particularly if you have been out of work for some time, or if you
have not worked at all. My role is to help, encourage and support lone parents
in taking this positive step. I am a New Deal Lone Parent Adviser. I provide
a service for parents on their own who are on income support. This service aims
to improve their income and quality of life by helping them into work.
Janets role is vital in helping lone parents raise their income, which in turn makes it easier to plan ahead for a more secure future for themselves and their children. Why dont you ring and have a chat with her, by calling freephone 0800 783 9579? You will not have to commit yourself to anything, just find out what help is available to you, like childcare and what kind of work you would really like to do. There is also specialist employment advice if you have a disability, so please just ring and have a chat.
Miles
Platting and Ancoats representative
The Community
Network (see below) is keen to make sure that local residents benefit from the
investment planned by New East Manchester Limited (NEML) to drive forward improvements
in the area, including Miles Platting and Ancoats. There is an opportunity for
a local person to act as the networks representative with NEML. This is
likely to be a very important role over the coming years and it will need somebody
dedicated to the improvement of the area. You will have to commit a lot of your
time and have the confidence to put the communitys views across and also
to report back to local people on the work of NEML.
If you know someone who you think would be good at being a representative for our area, please tell us. Anybody interested in this role should write to the magazine group.
Community
Network for Ancoats & Miles Platting
Did you know that there are lots of community and voluntary groups in our area
all working hard to improve our quality of life and our childrens?
Well, the community network was originally suggested by these groups, so as to give our area a strong voice. It will be a place to share skills, contacts and opportunities with each other. It will be easier to pool information with the local community (cause we dont always find out about everything on offer) and improve our use of newsletters, the magazine, radio and other media.
We will be able to help new groups set up (with help from the community chest fund) and share funding information and experience.
Although mainly made up from voluntary and community groups, we also have members from agencies who are based and work at the grass roots in the area. Its these working relationships and partnerships that will lead to even more opportunities for the area.
We meet on a regular basis. If you feel that your group should be represented then please contact us on 203 6021 and well happily add you to the mailing list.
If you find out about anything going on in the area please tell your friends and family and network with us.
