Cariocca
in Miles Platting
Have you been wondering what that mysterious blue building on Varley Street
is, and what its for? Well, it will be for use by the community and also
small businesses and its going to be run by Cariocca Enterprises.
Cariocca are one of the biggest and most successful workspace managers in the north west, with 35,000 square feet at their Ardwick premises completely full and home to 500 jobs. Their involvement in Miles Platting comes at a time when businesses and community projects are keen to move into the area.
The new building has not yet opened. Things are taking a long time because Norweb, Granada Challenge and Manchester City Council, who started the building as a community facility, are now handing it over to Cariocca. This transfer of leases is a long drawn out business. All the funders want to be sure the hand-over to Cariocca is properly done.
In the downstairs part,
there will be starter units for small businesses, which are for rent at £15
a week. Miles Platting Community Assembly will have 20,000 square feet for community
use, with no heating or light bills to pay. The upstairs area is still not earmarked
for any use. It may be claimed for youth activities (see below).
If you have any ideas on how the upstairs of the premises should be used, then
drop us a line and we will pass it on. The address is Have Your Say, First Floor,
Victoria Mill, Varley Street, Manchester M40 7LJ
