Miles Platting Village

The picture of ‘Miles Platting Village’ came into being because as Emma’s grandfather I would recall some of the places we would go to play as children in the thirties and forties, in the Miles Platting area. Some of the ‘made up’ bedtime stories I told were slightly exaggerated to include some of the characters known by the younger generation of today, hence the fact that when Emma went to bed, she would ask me to tell her a story about ‘Miles Platting Village’.

Of course we used to play with the seven dwarfs, who all used to sit on the gas works wall, singing. Pinocchio used to live on Bradford Road and play with us in the midget forest and Ariel the mermaid would swim with me in the canal at the back of Holland’s Mill where the water was nice and warm.

We decided to draw a picture of Miles Platting Village and this is Emma’s impression of where her Grandpa was born and where he played with his special friends.
