Safety in the Home

Cooking
Check that pans of food are never left to cook unattended.

Check that cookers are always turned off before you leave the kitchen.

Check that towels and clothing are kept away from the cooker.

Chip Pans
Check that chip pans are never filled more than one third full.

Check that chips are never left to cook unattended.

Check that the oil is never allowed to become too hot.

Check that the chip pan is never left when you go to answer the phone or to answer a knock at the door.

Take Care To Make A Safer Home
Replace old chip pans with thermostatically controlled, automatic cut-off, deep friers.

For those who are forgetful, provide a simple timer alarm for them to carry. When they place a pan of food on the cooker, they click the alarm which will sound at a given time period, reminding them to turn off the cooker.

Get rid of matches in the home. If you smoke, use a lighter which when dropped, will turn itself off automatically.

Get a smoke alarm fitted and maintain it.
