Sunny Ancoats
I’m surrounded by such poverty
My street is soiled with litter,
Neighbours don’t know how to smile
They’re sad and very bitter.

Money is tight, families are split,
Kids don’t go to school.
Father’s drinking down the pub,
While mum works like a mule.

Burnt out cars, smoke at night,
Police sirens haunt the air.
Dogs they bark till dawn is near
And owners just don’t care.

Still we get by, from day to day,
For we all have our dreams.
They get us through the darkest times
And it’s not as bad as it seems.

A Final Thought
“I have just joined the magazine group. The people in the group are great and very funny. The funniest of the group is Lynn. A local magazine is a good idea. It is giving local people information about the area. The magazine group discuss everything and value everybody’s opinion. Being in the group has given me more confidence in myself and I find it fantastic to do research for people. That’s what I like doing and I know I am good at it. I have also done some work on the computer, something I have never done in my life. I am pleased about this. My work for Have Your Say gives me experience of producing and administering a magazine.”
