Two Young Girls

Elizabeth Maclure and Miriam CoombesThe two young girls in the photograph are my mother Elizabeth Maclure aged about 16 and Miriam Coombes her cousin who was aged about 14. Miriam's Mum and Dad, Jim and Maggie had the Star Inn, which was in Collyhurst Street. They had four children, Andrew, Margaret, Miriam and Alice. Miriam married Tom Partridge and had three children. James, Miriam and Tom Jnr, they lived next to the arches in Collyhurst Street.

Elizabeth MacLure's Mum and Dad Sarah and Frank had the Monsall Inn, which used to be in Monsall Street Miles Platting. They had four children, Elizabeth who everyone called Bess, Edward, (Ted) Margaret and Frank Jnr. Sadly Frank Maclure senior died when Frank Jnr. was a few years old. Ted Maclure married Betty Gilmore and had three boys, Ted, Rod and Ian.

Neither Margaret nor Frank jnr. ever married. Sarah's daughter Bess (my mum) became Mrs. Bess Davison, mother to Ted, Ged, (myself) Doris, Jim and Frank, also my half brother Tony (Bluey) Walsh.
My Grandmother Sarah later married again, to Jerry Pollard they had no children.
