The bug house and the baths
First I must thank my cousin June Firmston for making me a member of "Have Your Say"
I have lovely memories of living in Ancoats Manchester as kids we use to go to the Butler pictures, we called it the bug house, and the lovely ice cream from Collins ice cream shop, in Butler Street. At Christmas we went to Victoria Hall near the cats park for a Christmas breakfast and they had Father Christmas there and we all got a little present.
We lived in Woodward St, and we used to go and have a bath on Saturday morning at the wash house, the baths were upstairs. We used to have a sing song and the attendant used to call us to “hurry up and get out”, they had a queue waiting. After school you would go home have a jam butty, and then be out playing till tea time. We use to go dancing at the Lido, and coming home we'd get a bag of fish and chips but if you didn't have enough money we'd get a bag of scrapings. They were good times.
I hope this magazine continues.
