Doorstep crime
People should always be aware of these criminal activities. Please remember the offenders can be either male or female. They usually operate in two's offender tells householder he/she wishes to check windows and doors for security purposes and that he/she is from Social Services, Housing Association or the council, any excuse can be made to gain entry into the house, water needs turning off or gas pipe/meter needs checking.
Once they gain entry into the house one of the offenders keep the householder(s) talking whilst the other gets on with the crime of stealing anything he/she can remove from the house easily. i.e. money/jewellery.
As this crime appears to be active across a large area of Greater Manchester, please readers always be aware that though the people on your doorstep may look
smart or official do NOT be fooled into letting these criminals into your home.
If you have a door chain please use it and DO Not open the door to anyone you are not sure about, if they are on official business they won't mind waiting until you can check out their story.
Remember don’t be fooled by accent either. Just because somebody looks decent or speaks nicely, doesn’t mean that they are a nice or decent human being! Likewise just because they may look like work men, doesn’t mean they are! The only work they may be doing is ‘lifting your money or belongings from you!
