Hello to the team of Have Your Say magazine,
I have tried emailing you, but I got no reply, perhaps I didn't have the correct address. I get your magazines from a friend in Cleveleys, so they are not the latest but we don't mind that. Our friend used to live in Manchester and he still has family in the Failsworth area. He gets his magazines from his sister. The magazine I have in front of me now, is Winter 2006, and one of the articles is about Tripe Colony and John Pendlebury, and where he started his tripe works in Simpson Street, Bradford. I was born in the house next to his tripe works, No 81!
My wife and I really enjoy the all the contents, and the presentation of the magazine. I spent all my younger days down in the Bradford area, so I am familiar with most of the places that are mentioned, as for my wife her younger days were in the south of Manchester, Cornbrook to be exact, near to Old Trafford. In her younger days she worked as a mantle machinist in the Ancoats and city centre areas, and she knows the churches such as St. Michael's, St. Patrick's and Corpus Christi.
Dear Team,
I am enclosing my cheque for 2007. Please keep sending me the Have Your Say magazine. I enjoy reading them so much. I went to St. Philips school on Ridgeway St Ancoats, then on to Birley St school in Beswick I see them mentioned in the magazine but it would be good if the ladies who write to you gave their maiden names.
Best wishes to all the team for the good work they do.
Dear Friends,
It was great to see the photo of my class mates at St. Luke's School in 1946 and my cousin Anita who I lost touch with over the years. I see a couple of mates from time to time. I will treasure the photograph forever. What memories!
Dear All at Have Your Say,
Thanks once again for the great mag', such lovely reading and to cousin Lily Windridge of M/c Thanks for the lovely memories of grans in Sutton Street, also Edna and Jim Manchester.
Dear All,
Thank you for my magazine which I received, and thanks too, for the lovely afternoon I spent with you at the open day. My brother and his wife came with me and were very impressed-they also joined up as members on that day.
Dear Have Your Say,
Please enrol me as a member of the Have Your Say magazine. I enclose a cheque for membership plus a donation.
I would love a copy of issue 26 as the photo sent in by Sylvia Green on page 17 is my class at St. Luke's Miles Platting. I'm on the back now 1st from the left and my friend June Eastham who now lives in South Africa is 3rd from left. I lived in Clarence Street (now Canada St)
P. S. I saw your magazine when visiting a relative in Heywood.
To all the staff at "Have Your Say"
Thank you all so much for continuing to send the magazine even though I had forgotten to send the subs.
I offer my sincere apologies; please find enclosed a cheque for membership for myself and friends.
Dear all,
Thank you so much for the magazines you have sent me over the past years. Both my husband and I have really enjoyed them. I come from Collyhurst but knew all the surrounding areas you write about.
Please find enclosed my membership fee for the next twelve months and a donation for your kind service.
Dear all at Have Your Say,
I used to live at 81 Lewis street in Miles Platting, my mum and dad were Mary and Harry Tabner, dad sadly died in 1999 aged 82, my mum I'm happy to say is a spritely 89 and is living in Haughton Green, Denton in Tameside, where I also live. I have a brother called Harry who is older than me by 5 years. We both attended Nelson Street School and then Holland Street School in the 50's.
I have more memories to share if that would be possible. I wonder if it would be possible to send me a copy of the issue with the article about The Five Imps as I remember seeing them at Holland Street (Miles Platting Secondary Modern School)
I look forward to receiving your magazine in the near future, keep up the good work!
Dear Have Your Say
Please find enclosed my subs for 2008, (and a little extra).
It is a real pleasure to receive this magazine. During 2007 it has made it possible for me to get in touch and visit somebody I haven't seen for 57years. It was a great re-union.
Also photographs of my brother (Two of these) when he was a little boy have appeared and one of my sister, Marie Whiteley, (deceased) with her class at Corpus Christi, sent in by Marie Pandolfo, who was in her class.
Thank You and keep up the good work
Dear Have Your Say,
Thank you very much for the magazines you sent me, I am really enjoying reading them, gets the old grey calls working remembering streets and places I used to play and work in when I lived in Miles Platting, Manchester and have lovely memories as a child living there.
I have just read about the greengrocers Mr & Mrs Boardman. I remember they had lots of children, as did many people in those day, but I always remember, how clean and neat all the children were, even though, Mrs Boardman worked in the shop.
I was so upset to hear about Corpus Christi closing down. I went to Corpus Christi. Anyone remember Sister Julie? I loved her and Father Cross, he was a bit stern but fair. My mother and father were married at Corpus Christi and most of my family went there, including my Grand parents, going back some as I am now 74 yrs.
I have a few photos of the whit walks and Corpus Christi. I will have them copied, then send them to you. I still have family in M/C so I go back at least once a year, if possible. still a Mancunian at heart.
Hi to the management team,
Would you please add my name to your membership list. My family and myself lived on 'Tripe Colony' for 36years. We have found it very interesting reading your magazine and seeing the names of people we knew.
Dear Editor,
I am writing to you on behalf of my mother Mrs Winifred Chard to whom you send the "Have Your Say" magazine.
Unfortunately my mother has been unwell this last year or so and has been unable to contact you and send a subscription.
She always enjoys reading the magazine and looking at the old photographs which bring back many memories for her.
Please find enclosed subscription plus a donation for the magazine.
Dear Maggi,
I am always pleased to read your magazine Have Your Say and delighted when I recognise a name or a memory someone is sharing from 'the old days'. Many have travelled far away but don't seem to have forgotten their childhood in Miles Platting and how life was in those years. I am enclosing my donation and thank you for your continued efforts with the news.
Dear Team members,
Thanks for my Summer Issue of Have Your Say, wonderful as usual it was quite a shock (a pleasant one) to see my photo in the issue with my cousin Don Jackson and Alan O'Garr. Sadly Don died a few years back.
Another nice surprise I had after that issue, was a phone call from Olwen Grimshaw (nee Owen) who I have not seen since leaving Albion Street, as a kid. I really enjoyed our conversation; it was as if we had only seen each other the day before.
My cousin Joyce Boomer (Mrs Moor) was on holiday in South Africa in 2004, went to listen to a Naval Band at a Naval Open Day and met with the conductor a St. Commander who believe it or not was brought up at 28 Albion St. Miles Platting his parents were in the Salvation Army and his mother taught the piano her name May Shakeshaft she now lives in Canada. (a small world!!)
Enough of my Rambling
Sorry to argue with you Stan, but The Shakeshaft's were our neighbours they must have lived at 26 Albion Street. I was actually born in the front room of No. 28!
Dear Have Your Say
Your correspondence items are top, Mike's article on Walter superb, Don's article on St. Pat's brought back memories, there isn't many of my generation from St. Pats left but whenever we meet up we do reminisce about Jack Mc Ivor who was a tyrant of a head master, incidentally Lawrence Casidy's deputy was a relative of John Goggins who was a great pal and supping buddy of my father, his wife was Rita Armstrong and they were the parents of Paul Goggins the M.P.
The Goggins family were big at St Dunstans in Moston and ran the Amateur dramatics and stage show concerts, Oklahoma and Carrousel etc. were favourites.
Dear Sir/Madam,
I would like to become a member of Have Your Say. I was born in Newton Heath and I would like to keep in touch with the area. Please could you also tell me when the "Italians" will be walking this year. I have heard it is their Centenary!
