Feelings Run Deep
I was a pupil, at Corpus Christi, from the age of 3yrs, till l5yrs. I'm now 72yrs. and still can remember most of the l2yrs, spent there. I remember Miss Lynch, Miss Conroy, Father Cross, Father Nield, Sister Julie who was my teacher in the seniors, she was so strict; she never smiled. We were all scared of her but what I can remember about Sister Julie was her beautiful soft hand's. I remember getting the strap for reading the Jolson story which was hidden in my prayer book. (boy did that strap hurt)
I also remember all of the school children filing past Abbott Toner's open coffin to kiss his ring, he was like the Pope to us.
My mum and Dad were married at Corpus Christi. All of my aunt's and uncle's went to school there. We lived and breathed Corpus Christi. Now it breaks my heart to see it shut down. My sister, who also went to Corpus Christi, is devastated, even though she now lives in Herts. My sister moved to London many years ago, where she still receives the magazines. I live in Prestwich, we still keep in touch and visit one another regularly and talk about our school days.
We remember walking up Oldham Road on whit Friday, dressed all in white, then round the parish, Trinity Sunday, such good days never to return.
