Collyhurst Flats and Thornton Street
The first photograph, left, was taken around Whit week in 1951 in Southern Drive, Collyhurst, of me Catherine Worswick (5yrs) Anne Worswick (8yrs) and Stella Worswick (2yrs). We also have a brother Keith who was born after this photograph was taken.
My dad was a fireman and worked at London Road Fire Station, Manchester. Our mum stayed home and looked after us kids. We all attended St. Malachy's school. Does anyone remember us?
We lived at 13 Southern Drive. I often think back to our childhood and Southern Drive and Thornton Street with it's row of six shops, who remembers Wilkinson's Chip shop, Hugh Faye's grocers, Duckworth's clothes and wool shop, Fanny Rainer's green grocery, the sweet shop, the butchers and the cake shop?
Last year we went to a reunion at the Irish Centre which was organised for people who lived in Collyhurst Flats by Lorraine, June Kennedy's daughter in remembrance of June who sadly died during 2007. A good time was had by all.
The second photo is of the three of us over 50 years later, it was the last photograph we had taken together, before our sister Stella passed away in 2002.
