Car Number 10 Driver
car number 10
Here is a photograph of Jack with one of his work colleagues Mr. Fisher and the car he used to drive.

One of our readers, Jack Farrimond, was employed as a Driver for the City Engineer and Surveyors Car Pool. Jack retired in October 2005 after working with the Car Pool for 24 years.

In Jack’s day there were nine drivers and cars with a whole range of duties to perform on behalf of the City Council, usually chauffeuring councillors or senior council officials.

Over the years things changed and eventually there was only one driver and one car with duties largely involving the Leader of the Council or the Chief Executive.

During Jack’s time with the City Engineers and Surveyors car pool, he provided a valuable service and transported many people including; John Prescott, Mo Molem, The Duke of Edinburgh, Alex Ferguson, Lady Diana, and the Prime Minister Tony Blair on their (separate) visits to Manchester. Jack also chauffeured the Lord Mayor of Manchester when the regular driver was not available.
