Get Out There And Enjoy Yourself!
tea dance
The City of Manchester Stadium, over fifties Christmas Tea Dance held on 21st December was a very enjoyable affair. With many ex Manchester City players and celebrities in attendance including Fred Eyre, Fred Fielder, Bert Lister, Brian Price, John Riley, DJ Alan King, Singer Carl Benedict and last but not least Howard Broadbent who has written many songs in his lifetime, and has also appeared on stage with the Houghton Weavers.

Howard is the co-writer of amongst other well-known songs ‘The Blackpool Bell’ co written with Jimmy Smith from Farnworth, Bolton. After over 70years on this earth, Howard has at last decided to come out from under his bushel and show his light! Doing more recording of his own songs than he has in the past.

The event was organised by Earl Barrett an ex Manchester City first team player, under the Active Blues project in partnership with Sport England and 4CT (4ComeTogether) Ltd who have their offices at The Grange Community Resource Centre, Beswick. As well as the dancing there was a prize draw with generous 1st, 2nd & 3rd prizes.

1st prize
MCFC hospitality voucher which included; a 2 course buffet style meal, Match tickets to a premier league game of the winners choice, a Match day programme and car parking facilities

2nd Prize
2 tickets to Manchester City V Everton and a Christmas Hamper donated by ASDA

3rd Prize
2 tickets to Manchester City V Everton and a Christmas Hamper donated by The Herb and Spice Garden, Hale.

Each person attending also enjoyed a buffet of sandwiches, mince pies, tea or Coffee and their first cold drink free; everyone attending also received 2 tickets for the football match Manchester City V Bolton to be held on 23rd December.
The celebrities gave time to come and chat to many of the people attending the event and this made the afternoon all the more enjoyable.

As an attendee of this event; when I wasn’t up dancing or celebrity spotting, I was pleased to be able to relax in the very comfortable chairs in the Legends suite.
Nosey Nellie.

PS I also attended a social games afternoon recently at the Stadium that was good fun too.

****There are a number of events planned for the over 50s at the City of Manchester Stadium including: Activity Days, Fun Runs, Summer dance and Barbeque Party. Family cycling days, gentle exercise class and more tea dances.
