Where to go for a healthier meWhere to go for a healthier me
Great news this issue! A new publication; ‘Where to go for a healthier me’ is being launched and delivered to over 3000 households in Miles Platting, Ancoats and Collyhurst. The book is a directory of all the healthy living activities that you can get up to in East Manchester and includes exciting activities that range from Tai chi and tea dancing to art classes and aerobics!

All the activities are listed with coloured ‘icons’ or signs that are coded to indicate what type of thing it is-it could be physical activity, nutritional or food related activity, relaxation or craft or other activity. At the back is a comprehensive index, which also gives a brief description of what the activity is - as some of them may be completely new!

There’s also some handy travel info and maps so there’s no excuse not to be able to get to your chosen activity!

No information about healthy living would be complete without some tips to get started-here’s a couple you will find in the guide to whet your appetite

Be realistic about starting a fitness regime
If you aim too high, you’re bound to fail! Don’t think London Marathon think a gentle jog and walk in the park and maybe work towards a charity run

Food fitness
Feel thirsty? Drink water: costs nothing, takes no time to prepare and keeps you happy healthy and headache free!

Feel Good fruit & veg
Eat the rainbow! Different coloured fruit and veg will make for an interesting and fun diet and help to make sure you get the range of vitamins that we need! Eat fruit and veg that’s in season, it’s cheaper and likely to be better for the environment too, as it won’t have been flown halfway round the world so you can eat strawberries in December!!

Cut the caffeine
Cutting down on caffeine helps to reduce anxiety and stress cravings, nervousness and depression. Caffeine is found in cola, tea, coffee and chocolate-try to keep a lid on the amount of it you drink and notice if you feel better!

If you’ve got any questions about the guide or would like a copy and haven’t received one, please let me know and I’ll be happy to get one out to you! Also if you have any comments about the guide-and suggestions for improvements, please let me know, it’s important that you Have Your Say!!

Good luck with your activities - you’ll be skipping about like a spring lamb before you know it!
