Dye-ing Out?
dye works
Hardman and Holden’s, Manox then later Degussa the well-known Dye Works in the Miles Platting area. Has after many years, not only closed down but it has been knocked down, completely flattened. Residents in the area are now noticing a couple of advantages:

1. The lack of smells from the dye works; smells which quite often were so strong you could taste them and they left a dry taste in the mouth.

2. The residue from the dye which many a window cleaner complained about turning their cloths blue is all but gone.

Locals are also asking the question; what is to be built in its place, for they believe the ground must surely be contaminated with the different substances used for making the dyes.

BUT the question most people are wondering about is: Does this mean the end of the Miles Platting Blue pigeon? Which most believe are peculiar only to this area because of the discolouration of their feathers due to the dye; some people believe the dye goes deeper than that and the pigeons are blue because of the amount of dye they must have ingested! So folks keep your eyes open to see how long the blue pigeons last.
