Planting the seed

For the past two years, Barclaycard have awarded Nicholas Varley Community School with several grants for various projects, which have included purchasing digital cameras and media equipment to be used throughout the school, These grants were awarded following bids sent in by members of the school team.

Last September, staff from Barclaycard participated in a Community Day at our school, working with children in the Foundation Stage. Prior to the visit, the staff from this company carried out a series of fundraising events and they raised £600 which was then used to purchase plants, soil, bark and other materials to enhance the new Foundation Stage playground. This learning environment not only enhances the children’s learning but also improves their health and fitness.

The visitors were so impressed by the facilities provided and the enthusiasm and manners of our children they have continued to keep in touch and regularly send items to aid the foundation stage environment eg: at Christmas they brought a box full of gloves, scarves and hats to enable the children to explore the outdoor environment in cold weather. In January they sent several coats to ensure all the children could investigate the outdoors, in all weathers.

The support of this company has enabled the school to not only acquire resources, but provide the children with further high quality learning experiences.
