The Re-union
"There's a re-union," my friend said
The words rang round in my head
I'd love to see my friends from school
Where obedience was the rule.
With tension I approached the hall
Somehow it did not seem as tall
I opened the door: there was a lot of noise
No longer, sounds of girls and boys.
No desks in rows across the room
No wishing it would soon be noon
Familiar faces come to me
We hug; we sniffle, over cups of tea.
Teachers; no longer stern
Or striving to help us learn
Laughing at our old antics
Which sometimes made them frantic!
It was an emotional day
I'm glad I didn't stay away
And for those who could not be there
We said a little silent prayer.
