Kathleen Bingham originally from Newby Street, Ancoats married her husband when he was serving in the US Army in England during the Second World War. So becoming Mrs. Kathleen Ciccone. Kathleen has many memories of Ancoats and the days when she and her sister and cousins attended St. Anne’s School and Church. Around about 1938 her family moved to Beswick Street and she remembers a butter factory across from their house. Also a museum, on Every Street that they used to visit frequently. She still thinks of England very fondly and would love to hear from anyone who might remember her or her family.

Bill and Margaret Jones now living in Australia and enjoying the Ozzie lifestyle. Here they are sailing up and down on a houseboat and having a BBQ. Bill was born in Miles Platting and lived with his mum and dad, Bill and Alma Jones in Kenwyn Street.

Harold and Doris Foulkes live in Souliac a beautiful part of France. Harold was born whilst his parents lived on Bradford Road Miles Platting. His father used to work at Bradford Road Gas works. They later went to live on 'Tripe Colony'. Harold and Doris eventually moved to France to be nearer to their son who had already relocated there. (Miles Platting to Souliac; that's going 'up steps!')

Duncan Howarth, lives and works in China, he receives each issue of Have Your Say magazine via his mum Mrs Jean Howarth. Duncan is also the grandson of Mr. Tom Reeves 'Sportcity Veteran' who was featured in issue 10 of Have Your Say.

Eunice O'Dwyer nee King; lived in Lytton Street Beswick, during her early childhood. Her father died when she was ten years old, so her mother brought up the family of four boys and four girls alone. Eunice remembers there was lots of entertainment as she was growing up; going to High Street swimming baths also Harpurhey baths. Dancing at the Ritz and the Plaza Chick Hibberts on Ashton Old Road, Sunday nights at Belle Vue. Going to first nights at the Theatre Royal and the Palace Theatre. Eunice worked at Kay & Lees in Allum Street Ancoats. Eunice now lives in Tipperary Town Ireland.

Sybil Howarth went to live in Canada more than thirty years ago with her husband Eric, who died three years ago. Before they moved to Canada Eric used to work at Prestons on Oldham Road. Sybil is now enjoying life again with her new partner Leo.

I hope these photo’s bring happy memories to some of your readers. Have Your Say magazine gives us great pleasure and we always look forward to receiving your magazine from my sister Margaret Flynn in Wythenshawe.

I was born in Enoch Street Miles Platting and attended St. Luke’s School; we moved to Lancashire Street, Newton Heath when I was 12 years old. During the war I worked as a riveter at Avro’s, Newton Heath and later as a machinist at Blooms on Oldham Road. I have fond memories of dancing at Newton Heath Palais, Harpurhey Baths and Joe Taylors; they were great times. I have also lived in Haughton Street, Openshaw before moving to Swansea then to Australia.

My husband Eddie was born in Canning Street Ancoats and attended St. Jude’s School; as a boy he would play in the “Cat’s Park” opposite Victoria Hall, Daniel Street.
