“I wanted ideas to do things with my children”
The Miles Platting & Ancoats Parent Education Project
Jo Martin is a mother of three who went back to college at the age of thirty three to improve her qualifications and her chances of getting a job. Now she is creating courses for other parents!

The Parent Education Project, run by Jo, works in St Anne’s, Corpus Christi, St Jude’s, St Mark’s and Miles Platting Schools and Ancoats Nursery School. Courses for parents have included Play Courses, Parents and Maths, Listening and Talking, Making Books, Parents and Reading, Parents and Science, Peaceful Children - Happy Families and others.

The courses are all very friendly, with the kettle on! They help parents to find out more about how and what their children are learning in school and also how they can help them more at home.

There is a creche for each course. Parents are able to go into the classroom and get to know the staff.

There are different courses each term and if parents want particular courses or sessions, Jo tries to put them on.

To find out more, phone Jo Martin or Lisa Johnson at Victoria Mill Adult Education Centre on 205 4819.
