Surviving in todays society
Is hard and so demanding.
For some there is no hope.
They need our understanding.
Pressure and poverty
Lead to deep depression.
Its hard to wear a smile
When all around us is recession.
Resist this hocus pocus,
We must not lose our focus.
Throw away the tissues.
Lets face the real issues.
Gangs, alcohol, drugs
They are a-plenty.
Our children are doomed
Before they reach twenty.
No shortage of thugs,
Our prisons are booming.
No shortage of drugs,
The Grim Reaper looming.
The elderly fear the lonely silence,
Easy targets for mindless violence.
How sad the picture of this day and age.
If it were only a book, I could tear out the page.
But this is reality,
With its lack of respect.
We all need to build
A strong safety net.
So I take a deep breath,
Sigh a deep sigh,
Believe in the future
And not Walk on By.
Ive plodded along for many years,
Worried, afraid, alone with my tears.
But I force myself on, battle my way through.
I am a mother, what else can I do?
Where do we start?
Where do we finish?
Working together
Our problems diminish.
Do not give up,
Do not despair,
Learn how to cope,
Be fully aware!
Take the time out,
Put the time in,
If parents unite,
The battle well win.
I had a void
Which Im trying to fill,
Educating myself
At Victoria Mill.
