In a back issue of Have Your Say I noticed a reference to Tony Hulme the entertainer. For several years now I have been trying to contact his cousin, Desmond Francis Lyons (Des). I worked with Des in the 60’s and we were good pals-despite his devotion to Man City! I think Des lived on Rochdale Road. Following his marriage to Mary he moved to the Bamford area.
He loved his horses and a pint. If anyone knows his whereabouts, or if he reads this, I would be most grateful to hear how he can be contacted.
With some surprise, I am reliably informed that I am some 66years of age, so Des would be a year or so older.
My father Edward Corcoran, a chartered accountant, was the son of John William Corcoran of 276 Gorton Lane. In the mid 30’s he moved to Cheadle Hulme on his marriage.
If anyone recognises him as family, I would also be very interested to hear from them.
My family and in-laws were from St. Edmunds and we would love to hear from anyone in that area. My name was Agnes Stockton and we lived in Westmoreland Street. Off Carisbrook Street.
I do see some familiar faces but names I just cannot remember.
My name is Chris Dobbs, son of the late Michael Dobbs of the hairdressers on Broadway, New Moston. (this may be of no interest/out of your remit)
I am trying to find out information regarding a road cycle club, my father
used to race with.
The club was called The Meteor club. I think they were based around New Moston. Gerry Shields may have either been a member or raced against them or may not! it is quite important to me.
I would be very grateful for
any help
I have just come across your magazine on the Internet. In issue 7 there is a piece about Louis Rocca (Newton Heath Football Team).
I have been trying to find some information about my grand-dad Willie (Bill) Jarvis who I believe was offered a contract to play professional football but had to refuse because the pay was not enough to raise his young family.
I would be grateful if any of your readers have information, which will help in my search. I can be contacted at dawnsimpkins2000@yahoo.co.uk
I came across your website and a page titled ‘Introducing Jim McCafferey’... are you related, or are you a family friend?
My reason for asking is my name is Paul McCafferey and I was born in a part of Manchester called Bradford, which is not far from where this gentleman comes from. Also, as the spelling of McCafferey isn’t that common, I was wondering if he or members of his family may know some of my family?
Both my Dad (Louis) and myself were only children so no extended family there, but my Granddad, also Louis had a number of brothers and sisters, but we never got to know much about them other than his niece Marlene who lives in Cheshire.
I would appreciate any information and even if it comes to nothing, it’s good to know there are other McCafferey’s out there.
I Came across an Ink Sketch by a Wilf Lowry it was one of a Burlington Ontario Street Front.
Is this the same Wilf Lowry mentioned on your web site? And is he still alive ?
I joined West Gas as an apprentice Draughtsman in 1951 and was there until 1974 when the Albion Works was sold to Hunts of Middleton, I then moved to another company within the West group. I would like to know if anyone has any photographs of the premises? Also my wife worked at the Playhouse Cinema I would ask for similar information about that location.
