Manchester Care&Repair.
Improving homes, Improving Lives and supporting independence.
Manchester Care&Repair is a local Charitable Organisation
working with older people and other vulnerable householders to repair, maintain,
adapt or improve their homes to enable them to remain in their own homes in
comfort and safety for as long as they wish.
A safe warm home is essential to the health of older people.
Manchester Care&Repair have several ways of doing this.
Steps to Safety Project: provides an advice service to older people to assess
their homes for such things as tripping hazards and provides the practical work
needed to prevent falls and accidents.
Manchester Care&Repair can fit an extra handrail on stairs, fit Grab rails
where necessary, put in better lighting and fix down carpets etc.
Safe as Houses
The fear of crime remains a great concern to Manchester residents.
Care&Repair have taken practical steps to reduce this fear. The Safe as houses flexible package of home security measures has been well received by many residents and crime figures show these measures are working.
Handyperson
There are two flexible schemes to help vulnerable older people with any small
repairs they may have. The scheme in East Manchester is supported by Social
Services and is known as Handyhelp.
Handyhelp provides help with those small jobs that a vulnerable older person cant manage. For example, someone to change tap washers to prevent leaky taps, change light bulbs that maybe an older person cant reach.
