I was born in 1926 and lived at 137 Victoria Square (The Dwellings) I lived in Ancoats (Little Italy) and attended St. Michael’s School, and played football for the school team. Two names I remember were Jimmy Daly and Pat Henshaw. I really enjoyed going to the Play Centre in George Leigh Street, many happy evenings after school were spent there. Also Hugh Oldham Lads Club in Livesey Street.

I served in the army with Harold Wozencroft (Deceased) and was a close friend of the family, their mother and my late wife’s (Kitty Midgley) mother were sisters.

Me and my brother Fred (Deceased) were pals with Joseph and Serafino DiFelice I would love to hear from anyone who remembers me from my schooldays.
James Draper

I was born in June 1928; I attended Corpus Christi School and Church until 1942. I served as an altar boy. The priests I remember were; Fathers’ Dodds, Cross, McGee and Neill. Prior Ryan and Abbott Toner.

I’m proud to say that my grandfather laid the floor in Corpus Christi Church. My grandfather always issued a challenge to anyone and everyone, he used to say; “If you can find a knot in that floor, I will give you a golden guinea!”

I remember lots of the teachers i.e. Mr. Phillips (Headmaster) Mr. Gilligan, Richmond, Vickers, Flately, Miss Lowe and Miss Grundy. Also numerous classmates; e.g. Frank Barlow, Arthur Griffiths. Lawrence Mannion. George Connor. James Hutton. Harry Evans. Frank Riley. Peter Kelly. Bernard Lyons. Freddie Dixon. Joe Greenhalgh and Dennis Carroll.

I was evacuated during the war to Hazel Grove.

I would be interested to hear from some and exchange reminiscences.
Jim Larkin

I had two best friends that I lost contact with when my family moved to Leicester one was Mary Burnside, lived in the dwelling houses on Oldham Road and the other was Joan Clayton, lived next to a shop on Woodward Street, my maiden name was Holland.

I would love to hear from them if possible.
Mrs Elsie Chamberlain

Thank you for Have Your Say. The memories come flooding back of happy days in Sycamore Street-where we lived until 1958 before moving to Langley Estate Middleton. Our family name Flitcroft must be known to many of your readers who lived in the area and attended Nelson Street or Corpus Christi, Holland Street or St. Johns Church on Oldham Road.

We’d Love to hear from people who remember us.
Dot Preston & Joan Prior (nee Flitcroft).
My maiden name is Lynch and I lived at 55 Ash Street Miles Platting until 1955.

My parents’ were Eva & Bill Lynch, my father was a market porter at Smithfield market. My mothers maiden name was Wimbleton, she was from a family of 11 children who all previously lived at 55 Ash Street with their parents (my Grandparents) Sarah-Anne & Albert Wimbleton.

The children all attended Corpus Christi, as I did in later years with my brother Bill. I have two younger sisters Evelynne & Elizabeth.

I married John Boyle whose family lived in Varley Street. John and his brother Terry were in the Flute Band as was my brother Bill. How proud I was of them, I knew all the band tunes and numbers off by heart. I would encourage my brother to practice his flute by joining him on the piano, and always knew when he played a ‘bum’ note.

I am in touch with some of the ‘old girls’ in my class, and we have dug up some old memories. It would be nice to hear from other people who remember me.
Anne Boyle
