I think, Couldnt get better than this could it?
On leaving home the post had arrived with a letter from my Mum and Dad, Tom and Alma Jones from Denton. (It just got better!) With the letter was Have Your Say Magazine, Issue 11, so whilst relaxing by the pool I had a read, and came across the article from Julie Chapman nee Almond about the 1960.s.
I too lived in Kenwyn Street with my parents and brother Philip until I married at 21. My wife Margaret and I ran a successful Wedding Car business before selling everything in 1990 and semi-retiring to Australia with our three sons two grandsons and one daughter-in-law.
We enjoy great weather and a great life-style, but with no history here, thats all back home with memories of Alan Hardman, Bobby Crowther, Jack Wilding, Frank Murray, Jeff Tranter, Peter Clegg and Vic Gomersall.
Sunday nights Vinny Pandolfo stopping his Ice-cream van in
Kenwyn Street. If dad was in a good mood, we got a twist with a Flake, sometimes
big Walter Peart (shirty) would come from Padstow Street and push-in, but the
Vinny always knew who arrived and in which order and took no nonsense from anyone!
Thanks For the memories and keep up the good work.
First of all I was born at number 39 Holland Street, Newton.
75 years ago, and when old enough went to St. Marks school. Head Master
Mr. Elgin. Teacher Mr. Paddy Wright (Happy Days).
I left school at 14 and started work at Fred Buckenhams Glass and China warehouse in Marcer Street until I was called up for the army and served in Europe until Dec 1947 then came home. I married my girl (Ethel Nixon) in 1948 she used to live in Old Mill Street near the Tower Cinema, Ethel and I are still together 53 years later! We emigrated to South Australia in 1966 and live in Adelaide.
I wonder if any of my old school friends are still kicking
and could by snail mail or E-mail contact me, I would only be to pleased to
reply to them, the following are a few of my old school pals: Jimmy Nuttall.
Alan Jackson. Frank Rodgers. Gladys Swindells. Ray Reynolds. Joan Buckley
I would be obliged if you could help me trace anybody from way back, if they
are still with us they should be around my age 75yrs.
Hello to you from beautiful Perth, Western Australia.
My name is Nadia Howarth and I went to Abbott Street School Collyhurst, in the
1940s and 1950s along with my brothers David and Roy Howarth. In fact three
generations of our family went to Abbott Street, My mother Mary Howarth (Nee
Street) and my grandmother Maggie Louise Street (Nee Holgate).
I used to be known by my middle name of Beryl when I was a youngster but for the last forty years I have been using my other name Nadia (Now Nadia Howarth again because I went back to using my maiden name after my divorce).
Ive been here in Perth, Western Australia for thirty years now but go home every few years to catch up with family and friends. (Funny how us ex-pats still call it home however long weve been away)
I have no school photos from my childhood and wonder if any of your readers might remember me and have some old photos they could send me copies of. Id love to hear from anyone whod like to write. I love writing letters and since I went on email Im writing to someone or other, every day! However for someone who doesnt have a computer I can still be reached at this address.
