I used to play football for the Albion Pub football team on the Red Rec. We were very successful in the local Sunday league. Winning lots of trophies along with the following. Peter Murray. Eric Dickens. Ged Molloy. Billy Bedford, and many more; anybody who remembers me, known as ‘assa’ I would look forward to hearing from them.
Harold Beresford.

My name is Freda Hulse (nee Camm) I was born and bred in Miles Platting. Now living in Australia. I went to Nelson Street Primary School, then for the last year of my schooling I went to Holland Street. I left school in 1953. I would dearly love to hear from any of my old school friends. My address is: 12 Quinn Avenue, Georgetown 7253, Tasmania, Australia.

The memories flow back when reading your magazine. I was very interested to read what the writer James Bell told of his memories of playing football in the Manchester Schools Under 11s Cup Final on Newton Heath loco ground. His sister Joan told me a lot about her soccer loving brother Jimmy Bell. We went to school at Ducie Avenue in the early 1950s and were great pals, Joan lived on Briscoe Lane, Newton Heath and I lived in Dale Street Miles Platting. I live in Canada now and enjoy copies of the magazine that my cousin Marian sends to me. I would like to send my best regards to Joan and Jimmy.
Sylvia Pelham. (Nee Green)

I was sent a copy of your magazine by a friend, I enjoyed reading it. I was born and brought up in the area of Ancoats and Miles Platting. I’d like to find Ged Gilbert who lived on Varley Street in the 1940s/1950s. We were both members of Gay Street Mission Brigade, Collyhurst. It would be nice to meet up again.

I went to Abbott Street School between 1944 and 1955 and actually lived in Abbott Street at number 37. When I was a youngster I was known by my middle name of Beryl but when I grew up I preferred to use my other name, Nadia. There must be some of your readers who remember me, although I was a very shy child. I would love to hear from anyone who knew me in the past. Here are my details.
Nadia Howarth

I was born in Collyhurst and Attended Abbott Street School leaving at the age of 14 in 1934. My headmistress was Miss Wise, the boys Master was a Mr. Wilcox and the very kind caretaker Mr. Robinson. I spent many happy years as a member of the schools swimming team (My grand-children in Australia have medals that I won). I remember many of the children I went to school with and hope if some recall me I would be very pleased to hear from them.
Monica Drury (Nee Mona Jennings)

I have been researching my family tree. My grandad’s name was Stephen Lewis and he worked at Ancoats Lads Club. I was interested to know if anyone knew of him or anything about the history of the club. He was married to Elizabeth. Their daughter Bertha was my mum. Elizabeth also had two daughters by a first marriage they were Dora and Selina. Any information would be appreciated. My Email address is sandmo@itconnect.net.au

Does anyone else remember these places or people? Marlands bread shop, Butler/Holland Street corner shop. Mrs Prince and Dolly. Mrs Elsie Lamb (bit posh) corner shop. Todd’s corner of Bradford Road. Or maybe someone will remember my old friends Vera McCalister who the lads used to run after and tie her to the lamppost. Kathleen Ringlord and Sheila Naffo? Or Edna who lived in Upper Cyprus Street and made clothes for everyone. I lived in Boundrey Street and later in Adswood Street.
