A tribute to AJ

On Thursday 20 February 2003, the opening and dedicating of a garden area and bench to the memory of Andrew James Shannon at Churnett Street Sheltered Housing took place.

A lovely Buffet was put on to be enjoyed by all. The community police, local councillors Joanne Green and Pat Carney, the Operational Service gardeners who designed and planted the garden, the photographer from the Advertiser newspaper and residents of the Sheltered housing scheme were in attendance as well as one or two strays (Myself Included).

A.J. as we referred to him at Have Your Say, was a hard working popular man who liked to “get things done”. He always had several projects on-the-go and his door was always open. He enjoyed entertaining and always had time for people.

Linda, his daughter, was delighted about the memorial to him and told me, “As well as all the achievements of his lifetime, he was also a great dad I am so proud of him. It is wonderful to see he was so well loved in the community”.
