Does anyone know where the saying
“The full Monty” came from?

Well it isn’t the modern meaning of getting all your clothes off!

It comes from the times when gentlemen had their suits made to measure, there was a famous tailor called Montague Burton. He made suits either with a waistcoat or if you preferred without a waistcoat.

The saying came about when people ordered the full complement of suit with a waistcoat from Mr Montague Burton. Hence the saying “The full Monty!”
