A Local Anecdote
This is based on the junction of Oldham Road and Butler Street; a few years ago on the north side of Oldham Road was a Church School, then an Inn, and then a Church. On the south side was the Angel public house. The local saying was:

“Education, Damnation and Salvation! and The Angel looks on”.
