Many a time women were too busy to cook a mid-day meal, what with washing and cleaning to attend to as well as looking after the kids. Lots of men worked locally and came home for their dinner break so it was handy to buy a meal from what was the fore-runner of to-days Take aways, the children in the family, usually the girls, set about the chores, clearing the table and washing the pots after the meal.
Of course that was long before the convenience of the take away, society of to-day when the used plastic containers are just discarded.
So the Take away is far from being a modern habit, the
only difference is that in times past, Take away didnt mean throw away.
