Stadium Views

"I watched the Track and Field Championships at Manchester’s new stadium, I was very impressed with the layout, there are plenty of toilets, the security staff are very helpful, and when my friend and I were sitting in a restricted area they were very courteous and escorted us to the correct seats. "

"The entrance fee was only £3 and excellent value for money. The programme which started at 11am and went on until after 5pm comprised of High Jump, Long Jump, Hammer, Discus, Hurdles and Steeple Chase, was very enjoyable. But then came the sting, Two Hamburgers, One cup of Tea and One cup of Coffee cost us £12-50. That is not what I call value for money and I wouldn’t think all the visitors expected at the main Event Commonwealth Games will think so either! We have got a lovely Stadium, something to be proud of, please don’t let us spoil it by customers/visitors going away thinking they’ve been ripped off because they have to pay over the top for their refreshments!"

"I think The Commonwealth Games are the best thing that could have happened to this area. Work that has needed doing for years is now being done!"

"I’m sick and tired of all the upheaval, the ridiculous lengths the council are going to, and the traffic congestion is going to be horrendous, and it will be regular travellers that will suffer most."

"Just think the eyes of the world will be on Manchester, I think it is great."

"It’s us, the residents of East Manchester that will be inconvenienced for the duration of the games, even the bins have to be put out before 4:30am! "

"I went to the trials a few weeks ago and I was amazed at the stadium it looks wonderful."

"I think the ticket prices for the opening and closing ceremonies are far too expensive."

"I think it is an honour and a privilege to be a volunteer at the stadium, there will never be another chance for an occasion like this not for some-one of my age anyway."

"I’m just wondering how much all this has cost, it’s a well known fact that the Cities that host events like this almost always run at a loss."

"I am very proud of the Stadium, it is a marvellous structure, it looks brilliant especially at night when it is all lit up!"

"I wonder whether the City of Manchester will lose millions of £££s or will we be one of the few who make a monetary success."

"I like the fact that the volunteers are made up of such a huge variety, there are male, female, black, white, young, old, big, little, and everything in between!"

"An awful lot of regeneration and restorative work has been done to make the area look smart, I’m frightened at how much the council tax will be increasing next year!
I have never seen so many Police in my life, where will they disappear to after the games? I couldn’t believe it when I saw Policemen on pedal cycles! "

"I had a walk out the other day it was really sunny and I thought I’d go and have a look at the new stadium, I walked round in a circle and could see it from every angle it’s hard to believe that such splendour is in the middle of East Manchester, most of the surroundings look good too, the only blot on the landscape I could see was the horrible advertising on the gasometer directly in front of the stadium."

"It’s crazy, what should be a happy event is turning into a nightmare for people round here, I’ve got to admit though, the security looks as though nothing can go wrong we have even got the police horses patrolling, actually in the back streets! That is a rare sight, well it used to be I should say, we see the police horses daily now, the kids love it!"

"I really hope The Commonwealth Games in Manchester is a great success, I’m fed up with people saying Manchester can’t do anything as good as other places, even Mancunians’ are getting into the habit of moaning and looking at everything negatively, I would love to make people aware of how much talent in all areas’ this city and the communities within it have."
